To: Mrs. Janet Jagan, State House: It was with profound sadness that we learned of the death of His Excellency Dr. Cheddi Jagan, President of Guyana. We followed closely news of his illness. Like the great fighter he was, Dr. Jagan kept giving us hope that he would recover, but in the end he succumbed. To you, Mrs. Jagan, to your children, grandchildren, and other relatives, we extend our sincerest condolences.Guyana has lost its greatest son. He was a champion for the poor and downtrodden, and ever since he entered the political field, he sought to better the lives of his people. A man of simplicity, of integrity, of honesty, he was all these things and yet his work was not finished. He was in the midst of bringing back life, happiness and progress to the people of Guyana when the good Lord called him to greater service.May those in charge carry on his policies to ensure that his vision for Guyana is achieved. We have lost a great hero, a friend, a father. May his soul rest in peace. -- M.L.Persaud & Family, retired Deputy Permanent Secretary and ex-District Commisioner, Rupununi.

Dr Jagan in all instances hasbeen regarded as the father of our nation who stood in thesame shoes as men such as Gandi, Kartin Luther King, Leninand Nelson Mandella. He stepped in to the challenge the British system as only a true Guyanese "son" would. It was with deep sadness that I heard of the death of the Honorable Dr. Cheddi Jagan. He was indeed honorable. He captured the imagination of all people who shared his concern for equal oppurtunity for all regardless of social status, race or religion. He inspired generations of freedom fighters all over the world at a time when the third world was fighting vigorously for its right to exsist. Through all the hard times in Guyana he maintained his dignity in the face of tremendous odds, and at times great scorn. Present generations can learn from the examplethat he set. This was really a man. Heartfelt condolonces to his wife and family. Fondest Regards, Michael Harris, 1302 Cresthaven Dr., Silver Spring, MD 20903.
